Walk and Wag Against Abuse October 1, 10a-1p. Akron Dog Park. benefits the Battered Women's Shelter!
On October 1st The Battered Women's Shelter, Towpath Credit Union, and Pawsibilities, the Humane Society of Greater Akron will host the 2nd Annual Walk and Wag against Abuse at the one and only Akron Dog Park located on 499 Memorial Parkway!
This event will help to connect the link between domestic violence and animal abuse. Not only is cruelty to animals frequently both an indicator and predictor of interpersonal, family, and community violence, but an alarming number of women report that threats to their companion and farm animals prevent them from leaving abusive relationships. This event will allow the Battered Women's Shelter to further emphasize that connection.
Funds raised from this event will help to support protective shelter for families suffering domestic violence.
Every year more and more families and pets are participating in events like this across the country. This is a playful opportunity to enjoy a great time with your favorite family members to raise awareness about the serious effects of violence against women and animals in our community. This year we are planning on doubling our numbers of participants in the event and we would love for you to join us.
