Walk & Wag for the Battered Women's Shelter on Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 1:00-4:00
3RD ANNUAL WALK & WAG AGAINST ABUSE
In homes all across our country families are suffering at the hands of controlling, hurtful, abusive family members; and the abuse doesn’t just affect people. Dogs, cats and other beloved pets are helpless victims of abuse everyday, so much so that cruelty to animals is a common indicator of both family and community violence and a regularly accepted predictor of future violence toward others.
The Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit & Medina Counties is committed to leading our community in the prevention of domestic abuse. It provides emergency shelter, advocacy and education and served approximately 6,000 individuals in 2011.
This August, Summit County’s canines will take a stand against abuse in Wallhaven’s Hardesty Park, or more accurately, they’ll walk against abuse at this fun, family-friendly event. DOGS, WOMEN, MEN, and CHILDREN are all WELCOME. (Dogs not required.) There will be a short CHARITY DOG WALK through the park, as well as informative DEMONSTRATIONS and EXHIBITS, VENDORS with pet-related products and services, LIVE ENTERTAINMENT (featuring award winning juggler, BILLY MATSUMOTO), FUN ACTIVITIES for the whole family, FOOD and REFRESHMENTS at great prices, PRIZES, and GIVE-A-WAYS.
Our entire community is affected by the abuse happening behind closed doors, so we’re asking community members to come together and make a difference.
